European Cybersecurity Strategy

The expectations of the EU in the field of cyber security based on five priorities

On 7.2.2013, the EC adopted

  • A communication on the cyber security strategy of the European Union – an open, secure and protected cyber space and a
  • Proposal for a directive on measures to ensure a high common network and information security in the Union („NIS-RL“; 2013/0027 [COD]; in negotiation) 

In the strategy, the expectations of the EU in the field of cyber security are depicted based on five priorities:

  • Robustness towards cyber attacks
  • Drastic curbing of cyber criminality
  • Development of a cyber defence policy and of cyber defence capacities in connection with the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP)
  • Development of the industrial and technical resources for cyber space
  • Development of a uniform cyber space strategy of the EU at international level and promotion of the basic values of the EU.
